About the Earth:

    • It appears blue
    • Light travels at the speed of about 300,000 km per second
    • Light of the sun takes about 8 minutes to reach the earth

About the Moon:

  • The Moon
    • Earth has only one satellite
    • Its diameter is one-quarter that of the Earth
    • It is about 3,84,400 km away from us
    • It moves around the earth in about 27 days
    • It takes exactly the same time [27 days] to complete one spin
    • Because of above reason, one side of the moon is visible to us
    • It has mountains, plains, and depressions

About Asteroids:

  • Asteroids
    • These are numerous tiny bodies
    • These are move around the sun
    • These are found between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter
    • These are parts of a planet that exploded many years back

About Meteoroids:

  • Meteoroids
    • Small pieces of rocks move around the sun
    • Sometimes these come near the earth and tend to drop upon it
    • Due to friction with air, they get heated up and burn
      • It causes a flash of light
      • Sometimes incomplete burnt falls on the earth and create a hollow

About Galaxy:

  • Galaxy
    • Made up of billions of stars and clouds of dust and gases
    • Millions of such galaxies make up the Universe

About Milky Way Galaxy:

  • Milky Way Galaxy
    • It is a cluster of millions of stars
    • Our solar system is a part of this galaxy
    • This was imagined to be a river of light flowing in the sky
    • Thus, it was named Akash Ganga

About Human-made Satellites:

  • Human-made Satellites
    • It is an artificial body
    • It is designed by scientists
    • These are for designed for information about the universe
    • It is carried by rocket and placed in orbit around the earth
    • Some Indian satellites in space are INSAT, IRS, EDUSAT, etc
